Kartal Karagedik
BaritoneKartal Karagedik, a distinguished baritone and a member of the Hamburg State Opera since 2015, has earned acclaim for his rich vocal artistry and profound interpretative depth. Born in Izmir, near the ancient city of Ephesus, Karagedik draws inspiration from his cultural heritage, seamlessly connecting antiquity with contemporary artistry. His performances reflect a deep engagement with universal themes, exploring human emotion, existential questions, and the timeless relevance of classical music.
Karagedik’s artistic journey began at the Conservatory of Izmir and continued at the Accademia dell’Opera Italiana in Bologna. Over the years, he has graced renowned stages worldwide, including the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Vienna Konzerthaus, Munich’s Herkulessaal, and the Tokyo Metropolitan Hall. In addition to his operatic achievements, he is celebrated for his innovative Lieder recitals and his passion for photography, which often complements his musical endeavors.
Beyond the stage, Karagedik’s photography has been showcased internationally, with exhibitions often intertwined with his musical performances. His visual work, centered on the interplay of light and shadow, mirrors the emotional and thematic contrasts found in his music.
On February 7, 2025, Karagedik will release his debut album, Prometheus, under the Prima Classic label. This ambitious project, recorded in the surrounding of the Schubertiade in Hohenems in 2024, presents a curated selection of Franz Schubert’s mythologically inspired Lieder. In collaboration with the legendary pianist Helmut Deutsch, Karagedik embarks on a profound exploration of Schubert’s music, intertwining Romantic expression with the enduring myths of antiquity. The album, centered on themes of freedom, resistance, and enlightenment, serves as a testament to Karagedik’s dedication to artistic and philosophical depth.
