Okeanos, known for its unusual mix of Western and Japanese instruments and formed in 2000, has a primary focus to reach out to new audiences, create opportunities for young composers and initiate pioneering performance events, often collaborating with other art forms.

Okeanos has premiered over 100 works and commissioned composers including Robin Holloway and Howard Skempton, as well as performing in renowned London venues including Kings Place and The Warehouse. Their 2014 project, Tokaido Road, was a 50-minute multi-media chamber music opera which combined music, visual art, mime, dance and poetry to tell the story behind the art of the iconic Japanese artist Hiroshige.
