OperaUpClose is an ambitious, Olivier Award-winning opera company, producing innovatively staged, unintimidating, affordable and crucially, high-quality English chamber re-imaginings of well-known works and premieres of new operas.
Since being founded in 2009, OperaUpClose has produced twenty-nine operas: six world premieres of contemporary operas and twenty-three classic operas in newly commissioned chamber orchestrations and English librettos.
This March, OperaUpClose has launched the third season of its online Coffee Break Concerts – ‘Songs of Solace and Spring’.
The free concerts, which are each under 30 minutes and will be available to watch here, will feature poetry – including introductions from actress Fiona Shaw – and monologues alongside songs and music for theatre.
The latest performances include Episode 9: Shakespeare Re-Shaped which is due to premiere at 3.30pm on Wed 17 March, and available to watch until 13 May 2021. This will be followed by Episode 10: Calming the Tempest scheduled to premiere at 3.30pm on Wed 31 March, and available until 13 May 2021.
OperaUpClose’s Coffee Break Concerts were launched during the first lockdown, to give musical respite for those working or caring (or both) at home, and employment for artists.
