Simon Wallfisch

Cellist and baritone

Unique in the classical world for specialising both as an operatic baritone and a cellist, Simon Wallfisch is an incredibly versatile and engaging artist. Simon combines his talents to craft an unparalleled and distinctive approach to classical music and the arts.

As an opera singer, he has performed roles at the Nürnberg State Opera, Zurich Opera, Leipzig Opera, as well as major houses across the globe. An acclaimed concert artist, he has a growing catalogue of recordings spanning English, French, German and Czech repertoire, and given recitals in venues including Wigmore Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Berlin Konzerthaus and Hamburg Laeiszhalle.

‘The Singing Cellist’, one of Simon’s standout shows, uses transcriptions of Lieder and Song for combined cello, voice and piano. Inspired by the likes of Victor Borgé, Igudesman and Joo, Simon Wallfisch uses humour and musical comedy as part of his performance style, giving an unexpected twist to a regular classical music concert.

Passionate about Music Education, Simon teaches at the University of West London, the Royal College of Music and regularly gives masterclasses and workshops. Simon is often invited to chair and partake in panel discussions, as well as giving talks on his family history and the Holocaust.
