A conductor has twice stopped an opera in Cardiff after mobile phones rang in the audience. Carlo Rizzi was conducting Welsh National Opera’s new production of Verdi’s Les Vêpres Sicilienes, at Donald Gordon Theatre at the Wales Millennium Centre on Saturday night.Audience members said Rizzi twice stopped and spoke to the audience about the distraction it caused.Verdi’s opera is based around true events in Sicily in 1282.

Die Stiftung Mozarteum kann mit ihrer Ausstellung zum Leben und Schaffen von Leopold Mozart einen Besucherrekord verbuchen. Eigenen Angaben zufolge sahen rund 180.000 internationale Besucher die Sonderausstellung “Leopold Mozart. Musiker – Manager – Mensch”, die zum 300. Geburtstag von Wolfgang Amadeus Mozarts Vater stattfand. Fast ein ganzes Jahr – von Anfang April 2019 bis Anfang Februar 2020 – standen die rund 80 z.Z. internationalen Exponate im Wohnhaus der Familie in Salzburg, in dem Leopold Mozart 1787 starb. Anstatt seines Sohnes sollte so der Mann beleuchtet werden, der zwar 50 Jahre lang in der österreichischen Stadt wirkte, jedoch erst seit den 1980er Jahren Forschungsgegenstand ist. Die Ausstellung zeigt unter anderem Originaldokumente wie Briefe, Drucke, Gemälde oder Grafiken aus Mozarts Leben als Hofmusiker und Pädagoge. Darüber hinaus gab es Hörstationen und ein interaktiv gestaltetes Social-Media-Profil zu entdecken, auch wurden Konzerte und Vorträge angeboten. Über den Zeitraum der Ausstellung wurden manche Exponate ausgetauscht, um sie konservatorisch zu schützen und die Veranstaltung gleichzeitig neu erlebbar zu machen.
Record attendance for Leopold Mozart exhibition
The Mozarteum Foundation has set a new visitor record with its exhibition on the life and work of Leopold Mozart. According to its official figures, around 180,000 international visitors saw the special exhibition “Leopold Mozart. Musician – Manager – Man”, which was held to mark the 300th birthday of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s father. For almost a whole year – from the beginning of April 2019 to the beginning of February 2020 – the approximately 80 currently international exhibits were on display in the family home in Salzburg, where Leopold Mozart died in 1787. Instead of his son, the aim was to highlight the man who worked in the Austrian city for 50 years but has only been the subject of research since the 1980s. The exhibition shows original documents such as letters, prints, paintings and graphics from Mozart’s life as a court musician and teacher. In addition, there were listening stations and an interactively designed social media profile to discover, and concerts and lectures were also offered. Over the course of the exhibition, some of the exhibits were exchanged in order to protect them from a conservation point of view and at the same time make the event a new experience.
