Continuo Foundation announces first grant recipients

Continuo Foundation has named the recipients of its first round of grants to UK period-instrument ensembles. The charity – established in October 2020 to support projects which create work for freelancers whose careers are at risk due to Covid-19 – will award £150,000 to 23 projects taking place from April to September, leading to work for more than 300 musicians across a variety of ensembles, including Dunedin Consort and La Nuova Musica.

Three million dollars for Silkroad, a collective of musicians founded by Yo-Yo Ma

Three million dollars is the donation received by Silkroad, the organisation founded by the American cellist Yo-Yo Ma. An opportunity to get to know an artist collective unlike any other…

Silkroad, which means “Road of silk”, is all of these things at once: the collective was founded in 1998 by Yo-Yo Ma, who wanted to broaden the cello repertoire and create a link between musicians who share the same concern and drive for pushing back the frontiers of classical music by playing, for example, the traditional music of their country.
