The coronavirus pandemic has silenced many orchestras around the world.
But the 70 young musicians who make up the Ulster Youth Orchestra have found a way to make themselves heard.
Under the supervision of Daniele Rustioni, the Ulster Orchestra’s chief conductor, they remotely recorded an ambitious piece of musical magic.
The players followed Mr Rustioni’s conducting online before each individual recording was carefully patched together to create a spectacular orchestral experience.
Staatskapelle Berlin gibt Livestream-Benefizkonzert
Mit einem Sonderkonzert im leeren Saal der Staatsoper Unter den Linden will die Staatskapelle Berlin Spenden für freischaffende Musiker sammeln. Das Konzert wird am Sonntag (15. November) als Internet-Livestream übertragen, teilte das Orchester am Dienstag mit. Unter der Leitung von Daniel Barenboim erklingen zwei Werke von Ludwig van Beethoven: Das Klavierkonzert Nr. 4 mit Sir András Schiff als Solist und die 3. Sinfonie.
Der Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (rbb) streamt das Konzert ab 15:00 Uhr live auf den Websites der Staatskapelle, der Staatsoper und von rbbKultur. Im Radio wird der Mitschnitt ab 20:04 Uhr gesendet. Im rbb Fernsehen ist eine Aufzeichnung am 16. November ab 23:45 Uhr zu sehen. Staatsopern-Intendant Matthias Schulz dankte dem rbb für die Kooperation. Er erinnerte an den Livestream der Oper “Carmen” im März während des ersten Lockdowns, der mehr als 160.000 Zuschauer aus der ganzen Welt erreicht habe. rbb-Intendantin Patricia Schlesinger erklärte: “Wenn die Orte für Kultur schließen müssen, öffnen wir neue Räume.”
Staatskapelle Berlin gives livestream benefit concert
With a special concert in the empty hall of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, the Staatskapelle Berlin wants to collect donations for freelance musicians. The concert will be broadcast on Sunday (15 November) as an internet live stream, the orchestra announced on Tuesday. Two works by Ludwig van Beethoven will be performed under the direction of Daniel Barenboim: Piano Concerto No. 4 with Sir András Schiff as soloist and the 3rd Symphony.
Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (rbb) will be streaming the concert live on the websites of the Staatskapelle, the Staatsoper and rbbKultur from 3 pm. The recording will be broadcast on the radio from 8.04 pm. On rbb television, a recording will be broadcast on 16 November from 11.45 pm. State Opera Director Matthias Schulz thanked rbb for the cooperation. He recalled the live stream of the opera “Carmen” in March during the first lockdown, which reached more than 160,000 viewers from all over the world. rbb Director-General Patricia Schlesinger said: “When places for culture have to close, we open new spaces.”

Le 29 octobre, lors de son discours devant l’Assemblée nationale, Jean Castex autorisait “le travail préparatoire aux spectacles, les répétitions, les enregistrements et les tournages afin de préparer les activités de demain”.
Le protocole sanitaire reste strict. Le ministère de la Culture a publié toute une série de recommandations à respecter afin d’éviter au maximum la propagation de l’épidémie. Les principales dispositions concernent le milieu artistique dans sa généralité. Celles-ci sont, plus que jamais, toujours en place en cette période de confinement.
Can musicians rehearse and record during confinement?
Confinement is a source of problems for artists, who are unable to work due to strict sanitary conditions. On the 29th of October, during his speech before the National Assembly, Jean Castex authorised “preparatory work for performances, rehearsals, recordings and filming in order to prepare for tomorrow’s activities”.
