ECHOES: Celebrating the Undying Beauty of Romantic Songs

Thursday 18th July 2024

Music possesses an extraordinary power to both connect and move people. The remarkable project, ‘ECHOES’, showcases this power beautifully. Three international classical music stars – soprano Katharina Konradi, mezzo-soprano Catriona Morison and pianist Ammiel Bushakevitz – joined forces and released their first collaborative album, ECHOES, on 10 May 2024, under the CAvi label.

This album is a true labour of love, born from a special friendship. Konradi and Morison met in 2012 during their studies in Berlin and quickly realised that their personalities blended perfectly, much like their voices. It was only a matter of time before they turned their dream of recording a joint album into reality. The talented pianist, Ammiel Bushakevitz, whom Konradi knew from previous successful projects, completed the trio.

From the start, the three artists were united in their programmatic vision: the art of the Romantic song would be the focal point. The result is a captivating repertoire that is both diverse and harmoniously unified. The album features songs in German, French, and Spanish and includes works by renowned Romantic composers such as Robert Schumann, Johannes Brahms, Camille Saint-Saëns, Charles Gounod and Ernest Chausson. Notably, it also includes pieces by female composers like Pauline Viardot, Maria Malibran and Mel Bonis, whose works have been seldom performed.

“We want to lend our voices to these female composers so that they are heard and receive the recognition they deserve, just like their male contemporaries”, emphasises Catriona Morison.

The diversity of the nine composers featured on this album allows the Romantic era to resonate like echoes from multiple perspectives. As if on a journey through the human soul, these duets explore and musically express a range of emotions: from passion and longing to sorrow, as well as joy, contentment and lightheartedness.

Shortly after its release, the album garnered significant media attention and received high praise from critics.

“This album is undoubtedly a major achievement: idyll, seduction, and an extraordinary brilliance arise from the enthusiasm of the three performers.” – Concerti

To experience the masterpiece live, the album will be performed in some of Europe’s most prestigious concert halls: on 21 July at the Rheinvokal Festival in Montabaur, on 19 October at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, on 21 October at the Konzerthaus in Vienna, and on 6 February at the Philharmonie in Cologne. Don’t miss these extraordinary concert experiences and immerse yourself in the world of Romantic music, brought to life by the unique voices and performances of Konradi, Morison and Bushakevitz.
