Oper Düsseldorf: Water damage due to sprinkler system

Water damage occurred at the Düsseldorf Opera House due to a false triggering of the sprinkler system. The water escaping from the sprinkler system submerged parts of the stage and the orchestra pit and damaged technical and electrical equipment. Although technicians on site were able to switch off the system, firefighters had to be called in to pump out the leaked water. Blowers were also installed to dehumidify the affected areas.

The Deutsche Oper am Rhein has not yet provided any information on the amount of the damage. The coming two conceptions must fail however. These are “Samson et Dalila” and “Hänsel und Gretel”. The house will resume operations at the end of the week.

Only in April there had been a water damage in the Duisburg Opera House – the second house in the merger “Deutsche Oper am Rhein”. At that time, 80,000 litres of water had flowed into the building during the testing of a sprinkler system.

Émilie Delorme at the head of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris

According to La Lettre Du Musicien, Émilie Delorme, the director of the Academy of the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, will take over the direction of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris. She will be the first woman appointed to this position since the creation of the CNSMDP. Since 1795, the Conservatory had been run by men. It has been ten months since we waited for the name of the person who will succeed Bruno Montovani, who will lead the Ensemble Orchestral Contemporain (EOC) from January 1, while continuing to teach at the CNSMDP. Last March, a first list of candidates was retooled by the State and dissensions appeared between the Ministry of Culture and the institution’s board of directors. In the meantime, an inspector from the relevant ministry had been appointed interim director. Emilie Delorme’s appointment represents a major symbolism in the small world of the direction of musical institutions in France since she will be the first woman to direct the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, created in 1795, at the head of which great names in music such as Luigi Cherubini, Gabriel Fauré, Marcel Dupré and Pascal Dumay have worked. Moreover, as La Lettre du Musicien points out, “It was time for a woman’s name to appear after a succession of male appointments”, notably at the Paris Opera (Alexander Neef), the Lyon Opera (Richard Brunel) and the new Centre National de la Musique, to be chaired by Jean-Philippe Thiellay (current Deputy Director of the Paris Opera).
