BACK‘Joker’ Composer Hildur Guonadottir Wins Best Score at 2020 BAFTA Awards
Joker was one of the big winners at the 2020 BAFTA Awards, earning three trophies, including one for original score by Hildur Guðnadóttir.
Guðnadóttir’s score for Joker was up against those for nominees 1917 (Thomas Newman), Jojo Rabbit (Michael Giacchino), Little Women (Alexandre Desplat) and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (John Williams) at the BAFTAs.
Joker’s wins also included best actor (Joaquin Phoenix) and casting (by Shayna Markowitz) at this year’s ceremony, which took place Sunday night (Feb. 2) at London’s Royal Albert Hall. (1917 led the evening’s winners list with seven awards.)
Hass im Netz: Auch Höppner sagt Moderation von Semperopernball ab
Nach Judith Rakers hat auch die für sie eingesprungene Mareile Höppner die Moderation des Semperopernballs in Dresden abgesagt. Grund sei ein unerträglicher «Grad an Hass bis hin zu Bedrohungen», habe sie dem MDR mitgeteilt, wie der Sender am Samstag bekanntgab.
Nach zwei Absagen ist unklar, wer den Dresdner Semperopernball am kommenden Freitag an der Seite von Schlagersänger Roland Kaiser moderieren wird. Der Opernballverein will sich nach Angaben eines Sprechers am Montag dazu äußern, wer den Job von Mareile Höppner übernehmen wird.
Auch die für ARD-Nachrichtensprecherin Judith Rakers eingesprungene Moderatorin hatte ihre Teilnahme abgesagt. Sie sei «seit der Bekanntgabe der Übernahme der Moderation einem Ansturm von Hass und Anfeindungen ausgesetzt» – so habe sie ihre Entscheidung dem Opernballverein begründet, wie dieser am Samstag mitteilte.
Hate on the net: Höppner also cancels moderation of Semper Opera Ball
After Judith Rakers, Mareile Höppner, who stepped in for her, also cancelled the moderation of the Semperopernball in Dresden. The reason was an unbearable “degree of hate to threats,” she told the MDR, as the station announced on Saturday.
After two cancellations, it is unclear who will host the Dresden Semper Opera Ball next Friday alongside pop singer Roland Kaiser. According to a spokesman, the Opernball foundation wants to comment on Monday who will take over Mareile Höppner’s job.
The host who had stepped in for ARD news anchor Judith Rakers had also cancelled her participation. She has “been exposed to a rush of hatred and hostility since the announcement of the takeover of the moderation” – that is why she justified her decision to the Opernball Foundation, as it was announced on Saturday.

Pour cette édition consacrée à Beethoven, 97% des billets pour les 180 concerts de piano ont trouvé preneur, selon les organisateurs. Au total l’édition de cette année a attiré “plus de 150 000 spectateurs dont 10 000 scolaires”, ont-ils ajouté. “C’est clairement une édition record. Le taux de fréquentation était de 95% l’année dernière”, ont-ils souligné. Le thème de la 27e édition qui se tiendra l’année prochaine a également été dévoilée officiellement : elle sera consacrée “aux compositeurs russes”, avec notamment au menu Sergueï Rachmaninov.
