The ISM has announced the release of its ‘How to…Negotiate a contract’ resource, the latest in its ‘How to…’ online series. Building on practical industry advice offered at the ISM’s The Empowered Musician event held in October 2018, the series highlights the skills and knowledge that musicians need to succeed in their career, with previous resources including ‘How to… Work with an artist manager and ‘How to… Write a DIY release marketing plan.’ ‘How to… Negotiate a contract’, written by lawyer and founder of VLT Legal Victoria Barrett, provides guidance on the contract process including tips for getting the best out of a contract and the basic tools to aid musicians in negotiations. Barrett previously worked as a freelance oboist and in artist management before studying law and qualifying as a solicitor. She then moved onto the Music Publishers Association before forming VLT Legal.
Arthur Waser Förderpreis für Trompeterin Lucienne Renaudin Vary
Die Trompeterin Lucienne Renaudin Vary erhält den diesjährigen Arthur Waser Förderpreis. Die Auszeichnung ist mit 25.000 Schweizer Franken dotiert, darüber hinaus bietet die die Möglichkeit auf ein Konzert im Kultur- und Kongresszentrum Luzern in Begleitung des städtischen Sinfonieorchesters. Die Jury begründete ihre Auswahl mit der “Ausstrahlung und ihre[r] ansteckenden Spielfreude” sowie mit der “enorme[n] Vielseitigkeit in den Musikstilen” der Französin. Die Künstlerin ist die erste Frau, die mit dem Preis bedacht wird. Das Preisträgerkonzert wird im Februar Februar 2020 stattfinden. Lucienne Renaudin Vary wurde 1999 geboren. Sie lernte zunächst am Conservatire du Mans und seit 2014 am Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris. Als Solistin trat sie unter anderem beim Rheingau Musik Festival, beim Festival Classique au Vert, bei den Antibes Génératon Virtuoses auf, spielte mit dem London Chamber Orchestra und mit dem Orchestre symphonique de Bretagne sowie in Russland, der Türkei, Kolumbien, Deutschand und Finnland. Neben Auftritten und Konzertreisen veröffentlichte sie 2017 und 2019 eigene Alben. 2016 gewann sie den Victoires de la Musique Classique in der Kategorie „Révélation“, außerdem wurde sie beim Concours des Rencontres des Cuivres und beim Concours des Clés d’Or ausgezeichnet. Außer Klassik spielt Lucienne Renaudin Vary Jazz.
Arthur Waser Award for trumpeter Lucienne Renaudin Vary
Trumpeter Lucienne Renaudin Vary receives this year’s Arthur Waser Award. The award is endowed with 25,000 Swiss francs and also offers the opportunity of a concert at the Culture and Congress Centre Lucerne accompanied by the city symphony orchestra. The jury justified its selection with the “charisma and infectious joy of playing” as well as the “enormous versatility in the musical styles” of the Frenchwoman. The artist is the first woman to be awarded the prize. The winner’s concert will take place in February 2020.

On a longtemps dénoncé le trop-plein de concours dans le milieu de la musique classique. Arguant du fait que la plupart de ces compétitions se ressemblaient. Que les jurés étaient toujours un peu les mêmes. Les candidats aussi. Sans parler des sempiternelles mêmes «œuvres à concours…». C’est pour mettre à bas ces idées reçues que le concours Long-Thibaud-Crespin a repensé, en profondeur, son fonctionnement l’an dernier. Après une première «édition de la renaissance» consacrée au violon, dirigée de main de maître par Renaud Capuçon et qui couronna à juste titre l’Ukrainienne Diana Tishchenko, cette semaine voit le début des éliminatoires, salle Cortot, de l’édition 2019, dédiée au piano. Un lancement très attendu.
