London Philharmonic Orchestra appoints Elena Dubinets as artistic director

The London Philharmonic Orchestra has announced the appointment of Russian-born Elena Dubinets to the role of artistic director, starting in September 2021. Dubinets was previously vice president of artist planning and creative projects at the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, where she co-founded and produced the orchestra’s in-house label.

A noted musicologist, she has taught at universities in the US, Russia and Costa Rica, published five books, and written articles, liner and programme notes. Her next book, Russian Composers Abroad: How They Left, Stayed, Returned, will be published in October by Indiana University Press.

Halle: Organisatoren sagen Händel-Festspiele 2021 ab

Coronabedingt sind die Händel-Festspiele 2021 in Halle abgesagt worden. «Zu unserem großen Bedauern müssen wir nun mitteilen, dass alle Versuche gescheitert sind, und dass aufgrund der jüngsten pandemischen Entwicklung mit dem rasanten Anstieg an Infizierten eine Durchführung der Händel-Festspiele 2021 vom 28. Mai bis 13. Juni 2021 nicht möglich ist», erklärten die Organisatoren am Donnerstag in Halle.

«Die Absage trifft uns emotional und finanziell schwer, ist aber unumgänglich und alternativlos.» Damit falle das große, international wahrgenommene Musikfest zum zweiten Mal in Folge aus.

Halle: Organisers cancel Handel Festival 2021

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Handel Festival 2021 in Halle has been cancelled. “To our great regret, we have to announce that all attempts have failed and that due to the recent pandemic development with its rapid increase in infection numbers, it will not be possible to hold the Handel Festival 2021 from 28 May to 13 June 2021,” the organisers said in Halle on Thursday.

“The cancellation hits us hard, both emotionally and financially, but is unavoidable and without alternative.” The big, internationally recognised music festival will be cancelled for the second time in a row.

Centenaire du Conservatoire américain de Fontainebleau

Né il y a tout juste un siècle, le Conservatoire américain de Fontainebleau est une ruche où se sont croisés les plus grands noms de la planète musique. Bruno Mantovani dirige demain un concert commémoratif retransmis en streaming depuis le Conservatoire de Paris.

Aaron Copland, Astor Piazzolla, John Eliot Gardiner, Quincy John ou Philip Glass : quel rapport entre ces musiciens ? Tous ont été, à des époques différentes, étudiants au Conservatoire américain de Fontainebleau, creuset de culture musicale qui jette des ponts par-dessus l’Atlantique depuis maintenant un siècle. C’est en effet en 1921 que naît cette école d’un genre particulier, fruit de l’entente cordiale qui unit la France et les Etats-Unis à l’issue de la Première Guerre mondiale.

Centenary of the American Conservatory of Fontainebleau

Founded just over a century ago, the American Conservatory of Fontainebleau is a hive of activity where the greatest names of the music world have crossed paths. Bruno Mantovani will conduct a commemorative concert tomorrow, which will be streamed from the Paris Conservatory.

Aaron Copland, Astor Piazzolla, John Eliot Gardiner, Quincy John or Philip Glass. The connection between these musicians? They were all, at different times, students at the American Conservatory in Fontainebleau, a melting pot of musical culture that has been building bridges across the Atlantic for a century now. It was in fact in 1921 that this particular kind of school was built, as a result of the cordial agreement that united France and the United States at the end of World War I.
