London Symphony Orchestra appoints Antonio Pappano as Chief Conductor
The London Symphony Orchestra (one of the best orchestras in the world) recently revealed that Simon Rattle is stepping down from the podium for a new appointment in Germany. Cue much guessing as to who might take over the baton… Well, guess no more as the LSO has today revealed that Antonio Pappano will be its new Chief Conductor.
Officially starting from the 2024/25 season, Pappano will be Chief Conductor Designate from September 2023.
Cellist Ottomar Borwitzky (90) gestorben
Die Berliner Philharmoniker trauern um ihren früheren Solocellisten Ottomar Borwitzky. Wie das Orchester am Dienstag mitteilte, starb der Musiker am Montag nach langer, schwerer Krankheit. Er wurde 90 Jahre alt.
Der 1930 in Hamburg geborene Borwitzky wirkte von 1956 bis 1993 als 1. Solocellist bei den Berliner Philharmonikern. 1972 gründete er mit Kollegen aus dem Orchester die “12 Cellisten” als eigenes Ensemble. Ab 1979 war er zudem Lehrer an der Karajan-Akademie.
Cellist Ottomar Borwitzky dies aged 90
The Berlin Philharmonic mourns the loss of its former principal cellist Ottomar Borwitzky. As the orchestra announced on Tuesday, the musician died on Monday after a long, serious illness. He was 90 years old.
Borwitzky, who was born in Hamburg in 1930, was 1st solo cellist with the Berlin Philharmonic from 1956 to 1993. In 1972, together with colleagues from the orchestra, he founded the “12 Cellists” as his own ensemble. From 1979 on he was also a teacher at the Karajan Academy.

Intitulée « Incarne le changement : Les femmes dans la musique », et basée sur 504 témoignages, elle dresse le constat d’un secteur aux nombreuses inégalités.
L’industrie musicale, un secteur très inégalitaire ? C’est ce qu’on perçoit à la lecture de cette étude, dans laquelle 9 musiciennes sur 10 déclarent que le milieu traite différemment les femmes et 81% affirment que la reconnaissance est plus dure à atteindre pour les femmes que pour les hommes.

The difficulties women face in pursuing a career in the music industry were the subject of a study conducted by MIDIA Research and distribution platform TuneCore/Believe. Entitled “Embodying Change: Women in Music,” and based on 504 testimonials, it paints a picture of an industry with many inequalities.
The music industry, a very unequal sector? That’s a conclusion that one could draw from this study, in which 9 out of 10 female musicians say that the industry treats women differently and 81% say that recognition is harder to achieve for women than for men.
