Met continues free opera streaming into 2021

Whatever stage of lockdown you find yourself in around the world, the Metropolitan Opera will continue to stream productions from its archive for free to global audiences. Here is the schedule for the next two weeks. All Nightly Met Opera Streams begin at 12.30am UK time and remain available via metopera.org for 23 hours. The performances are also accessible on all Met Opera on Demand apps.

Luxemburg lockert Corona-Einschränkungen

In Luxemburg sollen die Corona-Regelungen gelockert werden. Ab kommendem Montag können damit Kultureinrichtungen wie Theater, Kinos, Museen und Bibliotheken unter Auflagen wieder öffnen, so die Entscheidung der Regierung. Auch Ladengeschäfte und Schulen sollen wieder öffnen, die Ausgangsbeschränkungen werden verkürzt, Gastronomiebetriebe hingegen bleiben geschlossen.

Bei Versammlungen mit mehr als vier Personen gilt im öffentlichen sowie im privaten Rahmen weiterhin eine Maskenpflicht. Das Parlament will noch in dieser Woche die zugehörigen Gesetzestexte verabschieden. Anlass für die Lockerungen ist ein Rückgang der Zahlen.

Luxembourg relaxes Corona restrictions

Corona regulations are to be relaxed in Luxembourg. As of next Monday, cultural institutions such as theatres, cinemas, museums and libraries will thus be able to reopen under certain conditions, according to the government’s decision. Shops and schools are also to reopen, curfew restrictions will be shortened, but catering establishments will remain closed.

For gatherings of more than four people, masks will continue to be compulsory in both public and private settings. Parliament plans to pass the relevant legislation this week. The reason for the relaxation is a decline in numbers.

Polémique : Le Met Opera a fait appel à des musiciens extérieurs pour son concert du Nouvel An

Le 31 décembre, le Met Opera a retransmis en ligne son traditionnel concert du Nouvel An. En raison de la pandémie de Covid 19 ce concert virtuel a été enregistré et diffusé depuis l’Allemagne avec des musiciens qui ne font pas partie de l’orchestre new-yorkais. Une pratique qui a soulevé une vague de protestation au sein de l’institution et sur Internet.

Dans le cadre d’une campagne de levée de fonds et pour satisfaire le public du Met Opera, sa direction a cru bien faire en proposant de diffuser en ligne le 31 décembre, moyennant 20 dollars, son concert du Nouvel An.

Controversy: The Met Opera has called in outside musicians for its New Year’s concert

On 31 December, the Met Opera broadcast its traditional New Year’s concert online. Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, this virtual concert was recorded and broadcast from Germany with musicians who are not part of the New York orchestra. A practice that has raised a wave of protest within the institution and on the Internet.

As part of a fundraising campaign and to satisfy the Met Opera’s audience, its management thought it was a good idea to offer to broadcast its New Year’s concert online on December 31 for $20.
