CBSO wins South Bank Sky Arts Award
The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra has won a South Bank Sky Arts Award for its 2018 Debussy Festival. Stephen Maddock, CBSO chief executive, was presented with the award by saxophonist Jess Gillam during the ceremony which took place on Sunday 7 July 2019 at the Savoy Hotel in London. The Debussy Festival, curated by CBSO music director Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla, was held in March 2018 over two weeks as a major celebration of the composer’s work to mark the centenary of his death.

“Hänsel und Gretel” von Engelbert Humperdinck ist die meistgespielte Oper in Deutschland, Österreich und der Schweiz. In der Saison 2017/18 gab es in den drei Ländern 37 Inszenierungen (davon 34 in Deutschland) und 254 Aufführungen (Deutschland: 239). Das geht aus der Werkstatistik hervor, die der Deutsche Bühnenverein am Dienstag veröffentlicht hat. Am häufigsten aufgeführt wurde “Die Zauberflöte” von Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – 329 Mal in allen drei Ländern zusammen, davon 286 Mal in Deutschland. Mit 518.164 Zuschauern zog Georges Bizets “Carmen” das meiste Publikum an (Deutschland: 129.643), gefolgt von der “Zauberflöte” mit 327.619 Gästen (in Deutschland Spitzenreiter mit 277.510 Besuchern). Auf den weiteren Plätzen liegen Giacomo Puccinis “Tosca”, Giuseppe Verdis “La Traviata” und Richard Wagners “Der fliegende Holländer“.

In the 2017/18 season there were 37 productions in the three countries (34 of them in Germany) and 254 performances (Germany: 239). This is shown in the work statistics published by the German Stage Association on Tuesday. Most frequently performed was “Die Zauberflöte” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – 329 times in all three countries, 286 of them in Germany. With 518,164 spectators, Georges Bizet’s “Carmen” attracted the largest audience (Germany: 129,643), followed by the “Magic Flute” with 327,619 guests (in Germany, the leader with 277,510 visitors). Other places included Giacomo Puccini’s “Tosca”, Giuseppe Verdi’s “La Traviata” and Richard Wagner’s “The Flying Dutchman”.
