The online event – broadcast on our websiteYouTube and Facebook channels – includes live performances by VOCES8; an interview with young composer Shruthi Rajasekar and the premiere of her choral work, Who Has Seen the Wind?; and an introduction to the work of the VOCES8 Foundation from CEO Paul Smith and Artistic Director Barnaby Smith.

Musicians’ Union demands financial assistance for freelance musicians from Government

The Musicians’ Union (MU) is calling on the UK Government to account for the urgent needs of freelance musicians in the coming weeks due to the impact of the Omicron variant and the subsequent rise in Covid-19 cases. 

Recent developments are having a noticeable impact on musicians’ ability to work, with a sharp increase in the number of no-shows and live performance cancellations in the last couple of weeks.

John Keene appointed chorus director of San Francisco Opera

San Francisco Opera (SFO) has announced the appointment of John Keene as Chorus Director. Keene will take up the role in January 2022, succeeding Ian Robertson who will retire at the end of this year following a 35-year tenure.

Keene’s appointment is a result of a search led by general director Matthew Shilvock, artistic managing director Gregory Henkel and Eun Sun Kim, music director of the Caroline H. Hume Concert Hall, which involved rehearsals with the Chorus.
