BACKScottish Government launches £750,000 touring Fund for Live Music
A new fund, called Scotland on Tour, has been announced by the Scottish government and aims to support the staging of concerts between January 2022 and January 2023.
Musicians and venues will be able to apply to a £750,000 fund.
The decision-making panel includes representatives from across the music industry, as well as Creative Scotland, Scottish Enterprise, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, XpoNorth, and South of Scotland Enterprise.
Participating artists, venues and festivals will be announced later this year.

26.08.21 – Berlin – Chinese pianist Lang Lang has been honoured with an Opus Klassik for his recording of the Goldberg Variations. He won the title in the category bestseller of the year, the organisers announced on Thursday. Among the 48 prize winners are the Bulgarian soprano Sonya Yoncheva (Singer of the Year) and the Polish tenor Piotr Beczala (Singer of the Year).

Les concerts d’ouverture de saison ont souvent valeur de déclaration d’intention. Cette année, aux Etats-Unis, une tendance lourde se dégage, comme l’a souligné le site Classical Voice : la présence de compositrices ou de compositeurs issus de la diversité. Ainsi, Esa-Pekka Salonen, patron du San Francisco Symphony, dirigera les œuvres de deux hispaniques (Alberto Ginastera et Silverstre Revueltas), ainsi que des songs de l’Afro-Américain Wayne Shorter. Au Chicago Symphony, Riccardo Muti mettra sur son pupitre des partitions de deux compositeurs noirs (dont une femme), Florence Price et le Chevalier de Saint-Georges. A l’Orchestre philharmonique de New York, Jaap van Zweden, dirigera la musique d’une compositrice vivante, Anna Clyne, et d’un Afro-Américain, George Walker.
American orchestras REALLY commit to diversity
In the 2021-2022 season, 23% of the works programmed by American orchestras were composed by women or musicians of colour. A figure that indicates a significant change… and one that is not without debate.
Season-opening concerts are often statements of intent. This year, in the United States, a strong trend is emerging, as highlighted by the Classical Voice website: the presence of composers of diverse backgrounds. For example, Esa-Pekka Salonen, head of the San Francisco Symphony, will conduct works by two Hispanics (Alberto Ginastera and Silverstre Revueltas), as well as songs by the African-American Wayne Shorter. At the Chicago Symphony, Riccardo Muti will feature scores by two black composers (one of them a woman), Florence Price and Chevalier de Saint-Georges. At the New York Philharmonic, Jaap van Zweden will conduct music by a living female composer, Anna Clyne, and an African-American, George Walker.
Proof of Vaccination Catches on in Most Venues, with a Few Holdouts
As the Delta variant numbers continue to rise, and the 2021-22 season approaches, an increasing number of presenters are updating their safety policies, most in alignment with local and state regulations. The Ojai Festival, most of which takes place outdoors, announced this week that it will require patrons to be fully vaccinated and masked for its September 16-19 events. So did the Los Angeles Philharmonic, joining the LA Master Chorale and the LA Chamber Orchestra. The Phil’s indoor, Walt Disney Hall concerts begin October 9, and the Hollywood Bowl, where concerts have been underway this summer, will require masking, as of today.
