BBC seeks to attract new audiences to its festival coverage
With two weeks to go before the Proms opens, the BBC has unveiled its plans for television coverage. A weekly BBC 2 show, broadcast on Saturday evenings throughout the festival, will be filmed at an outside studio – described as ‘a specially constructed outdoor bandstand’ – sited near the Albert Memorial.
BSO releases report calling for improvements to disability inclusion
The BSO was the only disabled-led music programme to receive funding through Arts Council England’s Change Makers campaign, developed to increase the diversity of senior leadership within the arts and cultural sector.
The BSO Change Makers programme ran in three parts: A training placement for James Rose, a disabled conductor. The creation of BSO Resound, a disabled-led professional ensemble created and directed by James. A series of organisational change activities including training for the whole BSO staff to embed inclusion and awareness.

He, who slept with his guitar – A tribute to João Gilberto
He created a picture of Brazil from jazz and samba: guitarist and singer João Gilberto, father of Bossa Nova, died at the age of 88. He was one of the greatest musicians in Brazil, indeed in the world. And a mystery to the end. So many legends entwine around João Gilberto and his weightless songs, whose most famous Garota de Ipanema by Antônio Carlos is “Tom” Jobim, The Girl from Ipanema. Together with Jobim, Gilberto was the father of an entire genre, the Bossa Nova – the New Wave. At the end of the 1950s, the two Samba and Cool threw jazz together and created the soundtrack for the Strandbohème Rio de Janeiros. It became the soundtrack for the whole of Brazil.
