WildKat PR welcomes US baritone John Brancy

Thursday 18th September 2014

We are delighted to welcome versatile baritone John Brancy to our international client roster.

John has been hailed by the New York Times as “a vibrant, resonate presence” and a “dashing, strong-voiced baritone”. The 2014-2015 season will see him in the title role of Tobias Picker’s Fantastic Mr. Fox at Opera San Antonio‘s brand new Tobin Center and with debuts at Edmonton Opera as Papageno in Die Zauberflöte and at Opera Lyra Ottawa as Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro. Brancy’s numerous concert engagements include a debut with Musica Sacra in Handel’s Messiah at Carnegie Hall and a recital tour with pianist Peter Dugan, where they will present a special tribute to the centennial anniversary of World War I presented by VocalArts DC at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, CAIC in Chicago and Société d’art Vocal de Montréal. The young baritone will also be performing in a recital at the New York Festival of Song and with renowned pianist Ken Noda at The Song Continues: Spotlight Recital, presented by Marilyn Horne.

Previous seasons saw Brancy at Oper Frankfurt, Dresden Semperoper, Le Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, Pacific Opera Victoria and Gotham Chamber Opera. He was also seen in performances at the Hugo Wolf Akademie in Stuttgart, and in recital with Thomas Adès and members of the San Francisco and Boston Symphony Orchestras. Brancy made his Carnegie, Avery Fisher, and Alice Tully Hall debuts while still an undergraduate student at The Juilliard School. He is a winner of the Sullivan Foundation Grand Prize, the 2013 Marilyn Horne Song Competition, first prize at the Classical Singer Magazine Competition, the Gold Award for Voice at the YoungArts Foundation competition and was a laureate of the 2012 Montreal International Music Competition.

John Brancy is passionate about music education and wrote the children’s opera Operation Superpower with Tobias Greenhalgh and the composer Armand Ranjbaran during their time at Julliard. John and Tobias perform the title roles of superheroes at school to encourage students to discover their own superpower. And because having a career as an opera singer and superhero is not enough, John is also about to launch the new snack brand ‘Meat N Nuts’ with his business partners Michael Atkins and Tyler Clark. Meat N Nuts combines a healthy blend of nuts with sustainably sourced beef jerky and the project was funded by a Kickstarter campaign.
