Welcoming Berlin-based label FILM

Thursday 15th September 2016

WildKat PR is excited to announce our new collaboration with the Berlin-based label FILM.

FILM presents a new studio recording from pianists Gregor SchwellenbachVolker Bertelmann alias Hauschka, John Kameel Farah, Erol Sarp from Grandbrothers, as well as Daniel Brandt and Paul Frick from the techno ensemble Brandt Brauer Frick. They will be releasing their interpretation of Steve Reich’s “Six Pianos” – a modern approach to his idea behind it.

With their electronic club music, as well as classical music background, the musicians formed “Six Pianos” in dignified modernity and topped it off with today’s sound aesthetics and advanced recording technologies of today. After the widely noticed performance at the Acht Brücken Festival 2016 at Cologne’s Philharmonic Hall, the ensemble played from six different grand pianos in six different locations throughout Germany for the recording. Each pianist performed his part on his own piano using his own typical studio equipment, before passing the recording over to the next pianist.

On the occasion of his 80th birthday, the six pianists declare their love to Steve Reich and his composition with this release. “Pianists are soloists and lone warriors by nature”, as Gregor Schwellenbach once said. But the initiator not only won over solo artists to the greatest possible extent but also their ensemble partners: Jan Brauer from Brandt Brauer Frick mixed “Six Pianos” in the studio while Lukas Vogel from Grandbrothers provided delays for the b-side, which includes “Keyboard Study #1” by Terry Riley.

WildKat PR is working with FILM to promote “Six Pianos”. Keep up to date with news through their Facebook and Twitter, as well as thorugh the WildKat PR blog.
