WildKat PR welcomes the Berkeley Ensemble

Monday 23rd December 2013

WildKat PR is delighted to welcome the Berkeley Ensemble to our artist’s roster. The Berkeley Ensemble is a chamber music ensemble which aims to champion British music and unfairly neglected works alongside the standard chamber music repertoire. It takes its name from two British composers of the last hundred years, father and son Sir Lennox and Michael Berkeley. Formed in 2008 by members of the Southbank Sinfonia, the ensemble was selected by “Making Music” for the Concert Promoters’ Network in 2010 and 2013, and were finalists in the 2009 Royal Over-Seas League competition.

The Berkeley Ensemble is set to release their debut recording Clarion Call: Music for Septet and Octet on Rensonus Classics in March 2014, featuring works inspired by Beethoven’s Septet and Schubert’s Octet by 20th and 21st century composers. The disc will feature works by John Casken, Charles Wood and Michael Berkeley. Notably, prior to performances by the Berkeley Ensemble, Wood’s Septet had only previously been performed by amateur ensembles. Michael Berkeley’s Clarion Call and Gallop were composed for the ensemble and premiered in 2013.

Clarion Call will no doubt bring to prominence little-known works as the Berkeley Ensemble have been doing successfully since their formation, and affirm their reputation for thoughtful and fascinating programming.
